Futurpreneur Canada – Youth Entrepreneur Financing & Mentorship
Also known as: Futurpreneur Canada
National non-profit financing young entrepreneurs aged 18–39: startup loans up to $75,000 (up to $25,000 from Futurpreneur + up to $50,000 from BDC) plus 2 years of one-on-one mentorship; a Side Hustle stream (max $20,000) exists for part-time ventures. THE go-to channel for founders whose business is too new for provincial programs — eligibility is a SALES test, not an incorporation-date test: pre-startup ventures and businesses with less than a year of significant sales qualify.
Loan + mentorship, not a grant. Newcomer stream has different amounts (up to $25,000). The Side Hustle stream's $20,000 max lives on a separate page (futurpreneur.ca/en/offering/side-hustle/) not directly re-fetched in the 2026-07-10 check — confirm that figure on its own page before citing it. Interest rate + startup eligibility re-verified against the core-startup page 2026-07-19 (prompted by Mia's meeting with Futurpreneur's director).
Who qualifies
- Founder aged 18–39 (application completed before turning 40)
- Business at pre-startup stage (first sales expected within months) OR has had less than 1 year of significant sales (revenue sufficient to pay the founder) — incorporation date itself is not the test
- Majority ownership by the qualifying young founder(s)
- Viable business plan and a 24-month cash flow required (Futurpreneur provides templates and support) — a startup with no revenue yet qualifies as long as these are in place. Confirmed both by the official page ('if your complete business plan and 24 month cash flow are ready for submission') and directly by Futurpreneur's director to consultant Mia (2026-07-19): a pre-revenue startup can qualify provided it has a business plan, cash flow, and projections.
- Interest on the Futurpreneur $25,000 portion (5-year term): CIBC's prime rate + 3%, interest-only for the first year, then equal monthly principal+interest. Rate cap: if CIBC prime exceeds 6% the rate is capped at 9%; if CIBC prime exceeds 9% the rate is just CIBC prime (no +3%). ⚠️ This +3% applies to the Futurpreneur $25,000 slice; the BDC $50,000 portion of the combined up-to-$75,000 loan is arranged/priced by BDC and is not covered by this rate — confirm BDC's terms separately.
- Loan (repayable), not a grant — but comes with 2 years of structured mentorship
Typical applicant
Student or young founder with a newly incorporated startup that is too new for BUMP/provincial programs — e.g. university entrepreneurs with seed funding from a pitch competition; a strong fit for pre-revenue AI/tech startups with 18–39 founders and a business plan in hand
Verified against the official program page as of 2026-07-19. Programs change — always confirm current details with the program office before committing project spend.
